April is Autism Awareness Month and what better way to show your support in the Virginia Peninsula than to contribute to this great event directly benefiting Americans with Autism! The Centers of Disease Control estimate that today one in every eighty-eight children born in the United States is diagnosed with Autism. The prevalence of Autism is higher than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and Down Syndrome combined. This staggering statistic is growing at a rapid rate and over 1.5 million Americans and their families are affected by this lifelong neurobiological disorder. Whether you have been personally affected by someone with Autism or know someone who has Autism, our Peninsula community must work together providing viable solutions for Autism.

The "Peninsula Run for Autism" organized by the Peninsula School for Autism is a 1 Miler - 5K - 10K  Race Event and Expo taking place at Newport News Park on April 6, 2013. We are asking that you become a sponsor of the run. Peninsula School for Autism is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit school dedicated to providing 1:1 evidence based intervention programs to improve the quality of academics; self-help, communication, life and social skills; provide in-home training for parents and caregivers; and outreach programs to improve the quality of life for people with autism and their families within the community of Newport News, Hampton, York County, Poquoson, Gloucester, Williamsburg and James City County.

In the words of Dr. Temple Grandin (Autism Activist, Professor, Author), "I am different but not less". Providing evidence based education and training to our Peninsula community is essential for the future and livelihood of Americans with Autism and their families. Together we can make our great community a better place for people with Autism and other related disorders.

Please Run or Walk for their future, a brighter future! Walk or Run for Autism! Help Change a child's life!
